How do Keylite windows improve home energy efficiency?
Keylite windows are packed with innovative features to keep them as energy efficient as possible.
Thermal collar
Keylite roof windows feature an integrated expanding thermal collar. Once activated, it expands to fill the gap between the window frame and the roof, preventing cold bridging.
Low U-Value
U-value measures how well a building component transmits heat. It indicates the rate of heat flow through a given area of material for a given temperature difference. The lower the U-value, the better the insulation and less heat loss.
Keylite windows have a low U-value of 1.0 W/m².K, making a significant difference to the overall energy efficiency of the windows.
Thermal and warm edge glazing
Keylite roof windows come with thermal glazing as standard. Consisting of two panes of glass separated by a 20mm gap, filled with argon gas. The warm edge spacer helps protect against condensation, keeping your home warm and dry.

What are the key benefits of installing roof windows in my home?
Roof windows offer a great range of benefits. Improved energy efficiency, better natural light and airflow are just a few of the reasons why people choose to install roof windows in their homes.
Increased natural light
Roof windows bring in almost twice as much natural light as vertical windows of the same size. They brighten rooms with ease and reduce the need for as much artificial lighting. More natural light has been proven to improve mood, productivity, and sleep, ultimately contributing to better overall well-being.
Improved ventilation
Opening roof windows allows fresh air to circulate through your space. Good ventilation helps regulate humidity and remove stale air, making roof windows especially beneficial for bathrooms and kitchens.
Better temperature control
Energy-efficient roof windows like Keylite’s are better at controlling temperature. They allow heat to escape in the summer while trapping solar heat in the winter, maintaining a comfortable temperature all year round.
Increased home value
Roof windows are highly sought after, especially high-quality ones like Keylite. With increased natural light, improved airflow, enhanced temperature control, and improved energy efficiency, roof windows make a home more attractive to potential buyers.
How to fit a Keylite roof window
Keylite roof windows are designed for easy installation. They feature Keylite’s signature “Flick-Fit” brackets for fast yet safe fitting from inside the building. The exact instructions for each Keylite model will be slightly different, but the process usually involves the following:
Step 1
Remove the window from its box by carefully sliding it out and removing all the packaging.
Step 2
Flick the pre-fitted brackets at the bottom of the window into place. Select the appropriate setting (tile or slate) based on your roof type.
Step 3
Position the window in the prepared roof opening. Rest the bottom Flick-Fit brackets on the bottom batten. A projecting spur on the bracket ensures the window is set at the correct height.
Step 4
Swing the window through the roof opening and flick the top brackets into place. Again, ensure the right setting is selected for tile or slate roofs. Secure the window with screws.
How to open Keylite roof windows
Keylite roof windows open differently, depending on the design: centre pivot or top-hung.
For centre pivot windows, pull the top handle down to open. To close, push the window sash upwards and pull the handle down to lock it back into the closed position.
For top-hung windows, twist the bottom handle and push outwards. The bottom handle can also be used for ventilation on top-hung windows.

How to clean Keylite roof windows
To clean Keylite roof windows, start by removing loose dust and debris with a soft cloth or brush.
Some Keylite roof models feature cleaning positions that allow for easier access to the entire window. Use warm, soapy water and a soft cloth to wash the glass and pane. Next, rinse with clean water, then dry with a lint-free cloth.
Always use soft materials when cleaning windows; don’t use scourers or anything abrasive, as this can damage and scratch the glass.
