How to paint decking
Painting your decking is easy. Below, we’ve covered how to paint decking in 3 simple steps.
Prepare your decking
Before painting, ensure your deck is in good condition and prepared. This includes removing any previous paint with a scraper or sanding paper. You should also scrub your deck with deck cleaner and leave it to dry for 24 hours. Finally, apply a wood preserver primer to help your paint last longer.
Paint your decking

To begin, stir the deck paint. Do this well before applying to ensure the colour is consistent.

Start in the furthest corner and work backwards.

Apply in the direction of the wood grain.

Apply the paint generously, using extra paint on any splits or cracks to fill them in.

A roller or paint sprayer will get the job done quicker, whilst a brush is best to get the smaller, fiddlier sections.
Leave to dry
Leave coats to dry completely before applying another coat. Continue until you are satisfied with the result.
