Do I need building regulations for a roof lantern?
Yes, roof lanterns in the UK are subject to building regulations and must meet requirements for structural integrity, ventilation, energy efficiency, weatherproofing and fire performance requirements.
In most cases, you will not require planning permission for roof lanterns unless they exceed the following parameters:

The lantern protrudes over 150mm above the roof plane.

Part of the lantern is higher than the highest point of the existing roof.

The building is listed or located in a conservation area.
What is the best roof to install solar panels?
The best roof to install solar panels on is a south-facing roof, as these get the most sunlight. Asphalt shingles and metal are considered the best roof materials for solar panels. Asphalt is sturdy and can easily accommodate the weight of solar panels while metal roofs are easiest to install on and have reflective properties that maximise energy efficiency.
