What is “granolithic concrete”

• Granolithic concrete (often just “grano”) is a fine-grade concrete / mortar composed of cement, sand, and a hard, fine aggregate (commonly granite or limestone) rather than the coarse gravel used in regular concrete.

• Because of this mix, granolithic concrete produces a dense, hard-wearing, abrasion-resistant surface — more durable than typical sand/cement screeds or ordinary concrete in terms of resisting wear, impact and heavy traffic. 

• The finish can be very smooth (trowelled, floated) or textured (for slip resistance), depending on application and finishing method.

Because of these properties, granolithic concrete is commonly used for floors, pavements, industrial sites, and—importantly—external steps or areas subject to heavy wear.
