Yes, Whin Dust is one of the most popular final laying courses for artificial grass in the UK. When applied over a compacted Type 1 MOT sub-base at a depth of 25–50mm, it compacts smoothly while allowing water to drain through freely.

What is the difference between Whin Dust and Sharp Sand?

Whin Dust is made from crushed whinstone (basalt rock) with angular particles that interlock exceptionally well under compaction. Sharp sand uses rounded river or silica particles, which do not pack down as firmly as whin dust for heavy load-bearing sub-bases.

How much Whin Dust do I need for my project?

As a rule of thumb, one standard Bulk Bag (approx. 850kg) will cover roughly 10 to 12 square metres at a depth of 50mm (2 inches) after compaction.
