Is oak good firewood?

Oak firewood is excellent because it burns clean, with minimal smoke & creosote buildup. Oak is a hardwood, that burns hotter, so produces more heat and lasts longer than softwood logs.

Is hardwood or softwood best for log burner?

Hardwood logs are better that softwood for sustained heat as the wood is denser, this means hardwood logs burn longer and produce more heat.
