Decking FAQs

How long does timber decking last?

Timber decking will naturally last 15-20 years in the UK with regular maintenance.

How do I maintain timber decking?

We recommend cleaning timber decking every 6 months using warm soapy water, this will prevent algae and mould growth, which is the main cause of the surface becoming slippery. Apply a wood preservative or sealant annually to protect against moisture and UV damage. This will help to significantly extend the life of your decking.

Can timber decking be painted or stained?

Your decking can be painted or stained. This will extend the lifespan as the timber absorbs the protective oils, it will also improve the appearance by enhancing the wood grain. Always ensure the oil or paint you use is suitable for exterior use, or specifically designed for decking use.

My new deck has some green stains or spots?

When first treated the timber may have a greenish tint due to the preservatives used in the pressure treatment. This protects the board from rot, insects and decay. With exposure to UV sunlight the green will naturally fade over time. This process is normal and improves the longevity of the timber.
