What is chipboard?

Chipboard is a lightweight, rigid board made from wood particles (shavings, chips, sawdust) and resin. Also known as particle board or low-density fibreboard. It became popular in the 50s for furniture and kitchens as it was significantly cheaper than solid wood options.

What is tongue and groove?

Tongue and groove, also abbreviated as T&G, has slots/grooves on the edge to allow the next piece to fit as a seal. Pieces will join together and create a single flat surface. This interlocking keeps the surface level and prevents movement.

What are chipboards used for?

Chipboards are used for inner drawers, cabinet frames and worktops. Higher quality "P5" graded chipboard can be used for kitchen worktops and flooring underlay/insulation.

What is the difference between P4 and P5 chipboard?

P4 chipboard is for load bearing in dry conditions. If you expect dampness, then P5 chipboard is made with water resistant resins so can be used in high moisture areas such as kitchens and bathrooms.
