Awards for Excellence 2009
Beatsons Building Supplies Limited has been nominated for three awards at the prestigious Builders Merchants Awards for Excellence. Beatsons was shortlisted for three awards and the judges have just advised us that we are finalist in two catagories:
Independant Builders Merchants of the year
and
Builders Merchant Marketing Initiative
The awards ceremony is on Friday 20th November in London where we await to find out who has won.

We require Sales Office Assistant and Counter Assistant for our busy Cumbernauld branch.
Sales Office Assistants
Dealing with telephone enquiries from the trade and public you should have experience of the building trade. Existing experience within a builders merchant is preferred but not essential. You should be computer literate and have experience of working in a sales environment.
Counter / Shop Assistants
Working in our shop area dealing with both the trade and public you will have general retail experience. A knowledge of building trades and products would be preferred but not essential. You should be computer literate and have experience of working within a retail environment, previous experience within a builders merchant or DIY store would be preferred.

Beatsons supports India project
Our Penicuik branch recently supported our customer Alastair McClung of Pentland Developments during his trip to Kalimpong in India.
Alastair and team worked on the Gandhi Ashram School Project.
They used the tools and equipment to in building & repair projects. The tools were then left for the community to use on other projects. Well done to Alastair and his team.

Get Britain Building Campaign
Beatsons Building Supplies Limited are proud to support the Get Britain Building Campaign.
The main aim of the campaign is set out below.
If the UK construction industry is to have any realistic chance of surviving this recession we believe 10 key issues need to be addressed to kick start the building industry:
1. Ensure responsible lending to prudent borrowers coupled with the reintroduction of mortgage interest tax relief
2. Cut VAT from 17.5 per cent (15 per cent for the next 13 months) to five per cent for all building repair and maintenance work
3. Develop and implement a coherent strategy to deal with the UK’s existing housing stock both in terms of helping to create more homes and making the UK’s existing stock more energy efficient
4. Set targets for all local authorities to fast track the planning process to release and designate land for social housing
5. Simplify the planning system
6. Produce an implementation plan to show the precise timings and location of public spending on schools, hospitals and prisons to ensure that projects are completed in 2009 and 2010 respectively
7. Introduce a section 106 agreement holiday and then subsequently cap the value of section 106 agreements. Abandon the proposed Community Infrastructure Levy
8. Reduce the regulatory and fiscal burden
9. Reform stamp duty so that only have higher rates of stamp duty apply to the proportion of the house price which is in the relevant band i.e. a graduated tax like income tax
10. Reintroduce empty property rate relief

Winter Opening hours
During the winter months, The Beatsons Group will be changing its Saturday opening times. Our Cumbernauld & Penicuik Stores will change to the new hours below. Alloa & Dunfermline remain open untikl 4pm on a Saturday.
The new hours will take effect from Saturday 1st November 2008, and will remain in place until Saturday 28th February 2009. (inclusive)

Weekday opening hours will remain the same:
7:30am - 5:00pm

Cumbernauld closing for Stocktake 18th - 21st July 2008
Cumbernauld is closing for their stocktake at 5pm on 17th July 2008. They will re-open for business on Tuesday 22nd July at 7:30am.

Dunfermline Open Day Success!
On Saturday the 24th May Beatsons Dunfermline held their open day.
The day was a great sucess with several hundred people attending the day. They were treated to a free BBQ lots of special offers and competitions and even an appearance by Sammy The Tammy.

Beatsons Penicuik makes a splash!
Congratulations to everyone at Beatsons Penicuik. They made over £4,000 for local charities during their recent white water rafting adventure.
The teams scooped all the prizes on the day with one of our boats being first to finish, Simon Payne (Assistant Branch manager) collecting the most money as an individual and Beatsons two boats collecting the most money overall. Well done to everyone involved.

Open Day at Beatsons Alloa
The recent open day at Beatsons Alloa to celebrate the opening of the new landscaping display area proved a real hit with customers. Despite the weather being against us for most of the two days the public and trade alike enjoyed the open days.
Over the two days we had The F1 Experience, with the chance to drive an F1 simulator inside a Williams F1 car. Also on display was an F1 Ferrari. Our all day BBQ was enjoyed by all and we even had the Marshall Transformation Centre on site to help with the design of your new driveway of patio.
Central FM kept the customers amused on Saturday morning with a series of live broadcasts from the open day.
Our landscaping display was constructed using Marshalls products by Cooper Construction. Details of how to contact Cooper Construction are shown below.
We would like to thank all those who attended the open days and all the Beatsons Staff and those from the other companies supporting us that made the open days such a sucess.

Electronic Signature Caputure at Beatsons
After a sucessful trial at Beatsons Dunfermline electronic signature capture wil arive at our Alloa and Penicuik Branches in April.
A signature Capture device enables the customer to sign for the receipt of the goods and our system caputres this image doing away with the need for multiple pages to be printed saving the amount of paper produced by our system. We can reprint or email the invoice with the signature if required on request.

Beatsons Building Supplies has continued its expansion program by opening the most recent branch in Pitreavie Industrial Estate in Dunfermline.
The new branch in Dunfermline stocks the same massive range as the current depots. It also boasts fantastic modern landscaping displays for you to inspire you. Within the units in Pitreavie Industrial Estate there is also a Kitchen Allsorts branch and a Boutique Bathrooms studio.
